ROBOTA/POTA Reference Overlap

Below you can find ROBOTA reference (B/YO-XXXX) the can be activated along with POTA references near them.

Up to 5 bunkers can be activated at the same time but the activator must be within 1km/1000m of every bunker’s given coordinates, i.e. only where all activation zones overlap (Venn diagram style).

Why people chase overlaps

  • 🔥 More chasers pile in (two programs = bigger audience)
  • 🏆 Faster progress toward awards
  • 🎒 Perfect for portable/QRP ops — one setup, double credit
  • 📻 Makes otherwise “rare” river references easier to activate

🏆Pro tips from the field🏆

  • Always announce both references when calling CQ “CQ POTA and ROBOTA, activating POTA RO-xxxx and ROBOTA B/YO-xxxx…”
  • Double-check distance rules for ROBOTA — being near the river isn’t always enough
  • Some logging tools let you tag multiple references per QSO — huge time saver

Winterfest 2026 Activations

Celebrating the spirit of amateur radio and historical exploration, the WorldWide BOTA (Bunkers on the Air) Winterfest 2026 brought together enthusiasts willing to brave the cold and activate the silent sentinels of the past. Among the highlights of the event were two significant activations led by YO3BEE (Bogdan) and YO3DYL (Dana), joined by YO3BEL (Sara) and YO3GPH (Adrian), putting the historic fortifications of the Bucharest defensive belt on the air.

🛡️ Activation Highlights

The team successfully activated two historic locations, bridging the gap between WWII history and modern communication:

  • B/YO-0040 – Fortul IV Tunari: A key site in the defensive ring of Bucharest, where portable stations handled a steady flow of chasers eager to log this historic bunker.
  • B/YO-0018 – Fortul I Chitila: Another successful operation, navigating winter weather and challenging seasonal propagation to ensure the fort’s signal reached across the bands.

🎓 Mentorship & Elmering

Beyond the technical success of the activations, YO3BEE (Bodgan) and YO3DYL (Dana) stood out for their commitment to “Elmering.” Throughout the Winterfest, they took the time to mentor fellow operators, sharing their expertise in:

  • Portable Efficiency: Techniques for quick station setup in rugged, cold environments.
  • Logistics & Planning: Navigating the specific requirements of both POTA (Parks on the Air) and BOTA(Bunkers on the Air) programs.
  • Operating Excellence: Teaching new activators how to manage pileups and optimize signal reach with modest portable gear.

Their dedication to growing the community ensures that the next generation of portable operators is well-prepared to take their radios into the field, regardless of the season.

Winterfest 2026

Following the success of the 2025 International Bunkerfest, WWBOTA presents Winterfest 2026, encouraging global bunker activations and hunting over a fun weekend.

Dates: Weekend 3–4 January 2026 (UTC)

Aims
• Promote the Worldwide Bunkers on the Air (WWBOTA) scheme
• Encourage bunker activations from all WWBOTA member countries
• Encourage worldwide bunker hunting and shortwave listening
• Include amateurs from countries without national bunker schemes as ‘guest countries’
• Have fun activating and chasing

Bunkers,Bunkers…

Hey everyone!

I’ve got some exciting news to share about our bunkers. We’ve seen a massive influx, with our numbers growing from around 60 to nearly 210 (update in progress) ! 📈 This huge jump means we’re making a change to the activation rules.
Going forward, you are now permit up 3fer . This new rule will give you more flexibility and make it easier to manage to activate all these new bunkers. Check Rules & Guidance for more information
Also I want to give a huge shout-out and thanks to two people who have been a big help. Vlad Budisan (YO5BDL) and Szilárd-Lehel Bücs from http://www.lilieci.ro have helped us out multiple times and even provided some new references for us to use. We couldn’t have done it without you! 🙌

Unlocking the Secret Power of Slot Antennas by K5DCC

Join us for this engaging presentation at the Tri-Lakes Amateur Radio Club (TLARC) where Denny, K5DCC, dives into the world of DIY slot antennas — a unique design made popular by antenna expert John Portune. Learn how you can build one yourself, why they work so well in tight spaces, and how they compare to traditional antennas. Great for apartment operators, stealth setups, and field use. Whether you’re looking to improve your ham radio station or just curious about antenna theory, this talk will get you thinking outside the box — or rather, inside the slot.

ROBOTA is born / Bunkerfest 2025

ROBOTA is born :

Today marks an exciting milestone for the amateur radio community in Romania as ROBOTA – Romania Bunkers on the Air officially begins to take shape! This ambitious project aims to connect ham radio operators with historical bunker locations across Romania, offering unique opportunities for activations and exploration.

While the foundation has been laid, we want to inform everyone that the ROBOTA website is still very much under construction and undergoing continuous modifications. Our team is working diligently to bring you a comprehensive and user-friendly platform and also a Romanian translation as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this development phase.

Stay tuned for more updates as ROBOTA progresses. We look forward to connecting with you on the air from some incredible historical sites soon!

Bunkerfest 2025 :

14-15th June 2025 will be the first WWBOTA International Festival of Bunker with activations across the entire worldwide bunkers community. To find out more about this exciting event click here.
